Ivan by Sophie Lark is a great introduction to the Underworld series, and to mafia style romances in general. Detailing the story of Sloane, a woman raised by a CIA agent who takes contract kill jobs and is hired to kill Ivan, the head of the Bratva family. Attempting to poison him in his sleep, he catches her and holds her hostage…and she likes it.

Ivan and Sloane see each other as equals and her cheeky attitude toward Ivan carries the story along nicely and adds a humorous touch to their sizzling romance. There is spanking and light BDSM elements to the story.

Overall this was a very enjoyable story and I would recommend to lovers of dark romance and those who love a bad boy romance. The book cover model is gorgeous and while his tattoo doesn’t go with the story I’m able to let that slide due to his piercing stare. Plot, character development and steam were all great and it drew me into reading the whole series.
